Channel Deepening Project (2006-8).  Client: Port of Melbourne Corporation

The expansion of the port capacity of Melbourne involved an extensive programme of capital dredging and berth works.  Cosmos Archaeology was involved in the preparation of the Supplementary Environmental Effects Statement (2006) and the implementation of the maritime heritage component of the resulting Environmental Management Plan (2008).  The works undertaken included heritage inductions for project contractors, reviewing of multi-beam sonar records prior to dredging and inspecting anomalies, archaeological monitoring of berth works wreck inspections and the excavation and relocation of the submerged remains of a historic pile light.
