Crown Allotment 29, Thomsons Road, Cranbourne North – Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Sites 7921-0987 and 7921-0988 (AAV Register) –Salvage Excavation

In June 2009, a program of manual archaeological salvage of Aboriginal Affairs Victoria (AAV) Registered Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Sites 7921-0987 and 7921-0988 was conducted. This work was undertaken on behalf of Golder Associates Pty Ltd. Both of these sites are located within Crown Allotment 29, Thompsons Road, Cranbourne North, Victoria. Cosmos Archaeology completed fieldwork for the salvage program over a period of 16 days. Excavations were carried out by a team of four archaeologists, official representatives from Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporation and Boon Wurrung Foundation Ltd., as well as archaeology students from La Trobe University. Artefacts found included flakes, retouched flakes, cores, flaked pieces and angular fragments, almost all showing conchoidal fracture. The finds indicated that intensive flaking and reworking occurred across the landscape at these sites.
