Overseas Passenger Terminal Wharf Extension, Sydney Cove: Maritime Archaeological Survey and Statement of Heritage Impact

Sydney Ports were proposing to upgrade the Overseas Passenger Terminal wharf and mooring infrastructure at Circular Quay by extending the northern section of the current terminal wharf and constructing a new mooring dolphin in Campbell's Cove. Cosmos Archaeology undertook the maritime archaeological survey and prepared a statement of heritage impact for any known or potential maritime archaeological remains. The survey record structural remains associated with the former 1901-1980 wharf present on the site, as well as potential for archaeological deposits associated with shipping and transportation in the location of the proposed dolphin. It also found very little likelihood of maritime archaeological relics within the area north of the current OPT wharf. The works were considered an acceptable impact considering that the impact would be to approximately 0.14% of the area of predicted maritime archaeological remains.
