Glebe Island Bridge Repair Works: Statement of Heritage Impact and Underwater Survey

Cosmos Archaeology undertook several assessments as well as an underwater survey in and immediately around the Glebe Island Bridge for the NSW Roads and Maritime Services for the proposed maintenance and repair works to the State Heritage registered bridge. The proposed works included repairs to the timber fender system that surrounds the central span of the bridge as well as additional works required to repair sections of the bridge damaged by a vessel impact in 2010. The maritime archaeological survey identified debris associated with the fender structure on and below the seabed. It was recommended that the proposed works proceed and that all new fabric added to the bridge be date stamped to identify the original sections of the swing bridge and fender system from the repair works.
