Remote Sensing

Remote Sensing

A term specific to maritime archaeology which refers to non-disturbance marine geophysical exploratory techniques. These include Side Scan Sonar (produces imagery similar to black and white aerial photos), Multi Beam Sonar (produces imagery similar to LIDAR), sub-bottom profiling or seismic refraction (produces imagery similar to a resistivity survey or ground penetrating radar) and magnetometer (metal detector that solely detects iron).
