Students from St Mark’s Anglican Community School have taken out a swag of prizes at their local LEGO League Competition, after designing an innovative solution to improve underwater archaeological excavations.
Cosmos Archaeology provided industry advice and feedback to the budding engineers, to help guide the design process for the ‘CLEAR POD’. This clever invention is a portable visibility tank for underwater archaeologists, to provide a clear water environment for excavation sites on the seafloor.

Part of their project required consultation with real-world professionals to better understand the challenges of working underwater to preserve cultural heritage. The students decided to tackle some of the biggest issues facing maritime archaeologists, particularly poor visibility and working quickly and safely underwater.
The CLEAR POD won the Engineering Award and the Peer Award at the local LEGO League Competition, and now the students are heading to the State Finals at Curtin University.
We wish the team from St Mark’s all the best!
